Pickling & Passivation of Stainless Steel :
Pickling cleans the surface, Passivation restores the corrosion resistance of components fabricated from Stainless Steel and thus considerably influences their service life and usefulness.
The corrosion resistance of Stainless Steel is primarily based upon the presence of chromium in the alloy. In combination with oxygen, the chromium forms a dense chemically resistance passive layer of chromic oxide which protects the surface against corrosion.
A dense passive layer of chromium oxide can only form on a clean metal surface.
General Scope of Works:
Applying suitable pickling agents on dried surfaces, allowing the product to react (this might take several hours rather than minutes).
Washing the pickling agent off and applying passivating agents for reaction.
Washing down the complete surface and allowing the surface to dry.
Testing the Pickling & Passivation process.
